Excursions
are planned for Saturday, June 12, 1999, and for Sunday, June 13 to Pushkin (Tsarskoye Selo) – 25 km south of St. Petersburg and to Petrodvorets (Peterhof) – 25 km south-west of St. Petersburg.Imperial Summer Residences
Tsarskoye Selo
was a magnificent symbol of the Russian autocracy. Its history begun in 1718 with a small palace built for Catherine I. Later it came into hands of Catherine the Great who made it her favourite residence for over 30 years. Its 3 parks occupy the area of 1480 acres, on which over 100 architectural constructions rise: from magnificent palaces and grand monuments to intimate pavilions and park sculptures.Petrodvorets was a summer palace of Peter the Great. It is located on the shore of Gulf of Finland. Built by Peter the Great to rival and even outshine the palace and the park of Versailles it really became the world famous gem. More than 140 fountains and 3 cascades spout into the air, forming cascading column of water. Many small and cozy palaces can be seen in the parks of Peterhof.
Lunches are included in the excursions fees: one (specify which) $50, both $90.
