Institute of Northern Development (IPOS) was organized on 15.12.85 according to the decision of Council of Ministers on 20.08.85 N 797 and the decision of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences on 28.11.85 N 1223

According to the decision of Siberian Division Russian Academy of Sciences N 493 on 05.11.88 Institute of Multiphases mechanics separated from IPOS.

According to the decision of Siberian Division Russian Academy of Sciences N 261 on 07.05.91 Institute of the Earth's Cryosphere separated from IPOS.

At present there are 6 Laboratories in the Institute:

Archeology;
Anthropology and ethnography;
Paleoecology;
Sociohistorical researches;
Steady development of ecosystem;
Landscape and phytocenotique researches.
