Founded in 1964, the Computing Centre (now ICMMG) of SB RAS has been engaged in research on computational and applied mathematics in such areas as the modelling of processes in the atmosphere and ocean, environmental protection problems, methods of mathematical modelling in geophysics, geophysical informatics, simulation of informatics systems, telecommunication systems, software for supercomputers.
Since 1994 the investigations of the ICMMG are supported by the Russian Foundation of Basic Research (RFBR) and RFBR-INTAS. Research is supported by the state scientific programs "Perspective Information Technologies", "Informatization of Russia", "Global Changes of Environment and Climate" and "World Ocean".
ICMMG has the state license for postgraduate education on seven specialities: Computational mathematics; System analysis, management and treatment of information; Mathematical and software supplying of computers, computer systems and computer networks; Telecommunication systems and computer networks; Mathematical modelling, numerical methods, and software systems; Physics of atmosphere and hydrosphere; Geoinformatics.
